10th Annual NCSU Polar Plunge – Freezin’ for a Reason….It’s a Tradition!

 

We DARE YOU to plunge into the wintry waters of Lake Raleigh on Centennial Campus at NC State University on Feb. 21!  This unique event kicks off the NC State Police Department’s  efforts to benefit the North Carolina Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics. We are proud to announce this year the police department has extended its partnership with the NC State Parent and Family Services.

The North Carolina Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics unites officers from law enforcement agencies and corrections departments across the state in an effort to raise funds and awareness for Special Olympics. Special Olympics’ is a year-round sports organization for children & adults with intellectual disabilities. We offer sports training and competition in 19 Olympic-type sports to more than 38,000 athletes across the state.  Athletes are never charged a fee to participate. As a 501(c)3 private non-profit, SONC relies on generous donations from individuals, businesses and civic organizations for funding.

What is the Polar Plunge?

The Polar Plunge is a unique opportunity for individuals, organizations, and businesses to support Special Olympics North Carolina athletes by taking an icy dip in the frigid waters of Lake Raleigh. The event is open to the public – all spectators are welcome free of charge – so invite your friends to come watch you plunge and then encourage them to get involved.

Participation:

The minimum donation to plunge is $50.00. Plungers can register by clicking here and create a personal fundraising web page to collect donations from family, friends and co-workers. Each participant will receive a T-shirt. After you have gotten wet, enjoy the Plunge Festival which includes music, prizes, raffles, coffee, chili and more!

Awards:

Prizes will be awarded to the:

  • Youngest Plunger
  • Oldest Plunger
  • Plunger with the Best Individual Costume
  • Plungers with the Best Team costume
  • The largest fundraising group – both Students and Non-students
  • The top individual fundraiser

Plenty of raffle prizes will also be up for grabs during the event!
