The Support Services Division reports to the Support Services Commander and contains the administrative and support functions of the NC State Police Department and also contains specialized law enforcement units.

Included in the Support Services Division are the administrative office personnel that handle budgetary, personnel, IT, and compensation functions.  Also included in the Division is the Police Department’s 911 Center, which is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week by an Emergency Communications Center Director and nine Emergency Communications Officers.  The 911 Center can be contacted by dialing 911 from University landlines or by dialing (919) 515-3000 from any cell phone.  In addition to answering calls for service and dispatching police officers and fire protection personnel, the 911 Center is also the point of contact for safety escorts.

Additionally, the 911 Center monitors and coordinates a number of other safety and security initiatives, utilizing the latest technology.  The Support Services Division also includes the Police Department’s Criminal Investigative Division, which consists of Detectives and Supervisors, who handle follow-up investigation on major crimes and also provides protection details when necessary.  Another unit contained in the Support Services Division is the Police Department’s Threat Assessment Unit, which identifies pre-violence indicators and coordinates with other University departments in order to prevent acts of violence from occurring.

The recruiting and training functions are also components of the Support Services Division, as the Police Department ensures that the most qualified applicants are recruited and hired and that all officers are provided with innovative and realistic training to ensure that they can respond promptly and professionally to any incident which may occur on campus.
