The University Police Department utilizes many different technologies to accomplish its mission of proactively policing the campus.  The Information Technology and Records Division is responsible for ensuring our department is using current technology to operate in the most efficient manner.

Marked police vehicles are equipped with an audio/video recording system to document vehicle operation and encounters with the university community.  Mobile data terminals provide dispatch, location and mapping, and suspect information to officers responding to calls for service.  The State of North Carolina ECitation program aids officers by printing out traffic citations from the vehicle and tracking the citation information to the court system and mobile access to the Records Management System allows officers to research information about past calls and document their actions from their patrol vehicle.

The Emergency Communications Center (ECC) is equipped with the latest technology which enhances our commitment to quality public service. This includes fire, intrusion, and panic alarm monitoring, Enhanced 911 Public Safety Answering Point, CCTV monitoring of cameras located around campus, Computer Aided Dispatch and police vehicle location equipment, property access control, weather monitoring equipment, and TDD equipment for communicating with the hearing impaired.  We also operate the University’s WolfAlert Siren System which is designed to notify anyone outside of a building in the event of campus emergencies. The WolfAlert System is tested on the first Monday of every month at 12:15 PM.

The WolfAlert System is comprised of text, e-mail, exterior warning sirens, and billboard messaging on closed-circuit TVs around campus. The University Police Department partners with Communication Technologies (ComTech), Environmental Health and Safety, Security Applications and Technologies, and University Communications to ensure emergency and safety information messages are spread as quickly and efficiently as possible to the university community. The police department also maintains this website for immediate dissemination of Crime Warning and Safety Notice messages as well as social media sites on facebook and Twitter.
